Good news for remote workers! The Philippines has just made it easier for digital nomads to live and work in the country. On April 24, 2025, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. signed an Executive Order (EO) that creates the Digital Nomad Visa (DNV), making the Philippines a new hotspot for people who work remotely from anywhere in the world.
With this new Digital Nomad Visa, foreigners can stay in the Philippines for up to one year, and they can even renew it if they want to stay longer. They can live, work, and even enjoy the beautiful beaches and mango shakes the country is famous for. The country is ready to welcome remote workers from all over the globe!

Who Can Apply?
To get this visa, applicants must meet certain requirements:
Be at least 18 years old.
Prove that they make money from outside the Philippines (remote work or online business).
Have a clean criminal record.
Have health insurance that covers their stay in the Philippines.
Also, you need to come from a country that allows Filipino digital nomads to work remotely in your country too.
Why Is This Happening?
The government hopes that this new visa will help boost tourism and help the country’s economy grow. The Philippines is already one of the fastest-growing remote work hubs in the world, ranked 7th globally. With the introduction of this visa, the government is hoping to attract skilled remote workers who will spend money and contribute to the local economy.
What’s Next?
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will soon announce the full details and rules about how to apply for the Digital Nomad Visa. They are working with other government agencies like the Department of Tourism and Bureau of Immigration to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Manila’s message to remote workers around the world is clear: Bring your laptops and come to the Philippines, because the country is ready for you!
What Does This Mean for Remote Workers?
The Philippines wants to be a major player in the global trend of remote work. With this new visa, they hope to attract more skilled remote workers to the country. At the same time, this move can also help Filipino workers who want to work remotely in other countries since only countries that offer Digital Nomad Visas to Filipinos will be eligible to join.
Other Countries Offering Digital Nomad Visas
As of 2025, over 60 countries have introduced their own digital nomad visa programs. These visas allow remote workers to live and work legally while supporting local economies. Countries like the Philippines, along with six other Asian nations, now offer this type of visa. Many countries in Europe, Africa, and Latin America have also launched similar programs. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) also has a special virtual work visa that lets professionals live in the UAE while working remotely for companies all over the world.
In short, the Philippines is making it easier for remote workers to live and work in the country, and it's a great opportunity for both the workers and the local economy!
