At CES 2025, Nvidia introduced a new desktop computer called Project DIGITS. This computer uses Nvidia's latest “Blackwell” chip and will cost $3,000. It also includes a new central processor, which Nvidia and MediaTek worked together to design.
During a talk with investors, Huang said that Nvidia and MediaTek worked together to make an energy-efficient CPU that could be sold to more people. Huang explained, “Now they could provide that to us, and they could keep that for themselves and serve the market. It’s a win-win.” This shows how both companies benefit from this partnership.
Huang also mentioned that Nvidia has plans for this new CPU, but he did not say what they were yet. “Obviously, we have plans,” he said, keeping some details a secret for now.
He also talked about the gap between Linux, which many AI developers use, and Microsoft’ Window, which is popular with many people. Nvidia believes they can help by using a Microsoft tool called Windows Subsystem for Linux. This tool lets both operating systems run on the same computer. Huang said, “We’re going to make that a mainstream product.” Nvidia will support it with software that helps professionals, and PC makers will offer it to customers.
With this new project, Nvidia is trying to become an important player in the desktop computer market and reach more people beyond its usual competition.
