His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, honoured six outstanding winners of the Great Arab Minds 2024 awards. The ceremony took place at the Museum of the Future in Dubai.
The Great Arab Minds initiative, the largest of its kind in the Arab world, celebrates Arabs who have made exceptional contributions to humanity in different fields.
The winners of the 2024 awards come from across the Arab world and are recognized for their remarkable achievements:
Professor Oussama Khatib (Syria): Honoured for his groundbreaking work in Engineering and Technology.
Dia Al-Azzawi (Iraq): Recognized for his creative contributions to Literature and the Arts.
Professor Omar Yaghi (Jordan): Awarded for his significant discoveries in Natural Sciences.
Professor Yasmine Belkaid (Algeria): Honoured for her pioneering research in Medicine.
Sahel Al-Hiyari (Jordan): Recognized for his innovative work in Architecture and Design.
Professor Yacine Aït-Sahalia (Algeria): Awarded for his exceptional contributions to Economics.
During the ceremony, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed spoke about the importance of exceptional talents in driving creativity, progress, and innovation. He said the Great Arab Minds programme shows the Arab world’s commitment to advancing global knowledge and human development. It aims to ensure that Arab thinkers and innovators continue to shape a better future for humanity.
His Highness congratulated the winners and said the programme plays a key role in reviving Arab civilisation and increasing the region’s contributions to global progress. The initiative supports innovators, scientists, and thinkers from the Arab world and amplifies their impact on the world stage.

Sheikh Mohammed also highlighted the region’s potential for a new era of scientific and cultural growth, driven by knowledge and modern technology. He emphasized the importance of Arab youth, expressing confidence that the future holds great opportunities for them. The Great Arab Minds winners, he said, will inspire the next generation to aim high and achieve success.

HE Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi highlighted Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s dedication to empowering exceptional Arab minds. He said Sheikh Mohammed’s visionary leadership has transformed the region in many areas, including space exploration, urban development, and government innovation. He also mentioned Sheikh Mohammed’s efforts in education, such as launching the world’s largest reading initiative and coding programmes to prepare Arab youth for the future.
The Great Arab Minds awards recognize excellence in fields like science, economics, medicine, literature and arts, engineering and technology, and architecture and design. This initiative aims to celebrate the region’s talents and inspire more contributions to global progress.
