According to Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, the meeting focused on evaluating the current and future plans for Lacto Misr Company, a key producer of baby milk and food products in Egypt. The discussion included expanding the first and second phases of baby milk production to meet the growing demand for artificial milk, ensuring its availability to all children in need.
The ministers also reviewed Lacto Misr's manufacturing capacity and its ability to supply subsidized milk. They explored strategies to attract foreign investments and encouraged greater collaboration with the private sector to enhance the production of children’s food products, aiming to further secure nutrition for young children.
During the meeting, the importance of launching awareness campaigns to encourage breastfeeding was highlighted, alongside the need to introduce healthy complementary foods to children starting from four months of age, particularly for those who depend on milk in their second stage of growth.
Additionally, the meeting emphasized the need for a more regulated system to ensure the fair distribution of artificial milk and that support reaches the deserving children. The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the provision of therapeutic milk, ensuring that this support does not become a financial burden on the public.
This initiative reflects the government’s efforts to improve the infrastructure for infant nutrition and ensure the well-being of Egypt's children through enhanced production, awareness, and strategic partnerships.
