A shooting at a bar in southeastern Mexico left seven people dead and five others wounded, according to authorities. This tragic incident, which happened on Saturday night, is part of a series of similar violent attacks that have been troubling the country.

The shooting took place at a bar called La Casita Azul in Villahermosa, a city in Tabasco state. The police quickly started looking for the people responsible for the attack. They have been reviewing video footage from surveillance cameras and have sent both local and federal police to patrol the area and find the suspects.

At first, officials reported that five people had been killed. However, the death toll later rose to seven, with the local prosecutor's office saying two more people died from their injuries. The bar, which authorities described as "clandestine" or operating illegally, was left with bloodied bodies scattered across the floor after the gunmen burst in and started shooting.

This attack follows a pattern of violent incidents in Tabasco, a state known for its oil production. In recent months, violent crime has been on the rise in the region. Just last November, a similar attack at another bar in Villahermosa left six people dead and 10 others wounded. Only weeks before that, a shooting at a bar in the city of Queretaro, a region that had been relatively safe from organized crime violence, resulted in 10 deaths. In addition, there was another shooting in a suburb of Mexico City the same weekend, where six people were killed.

Mexico has been struggling with drug-related violence for years, with over 450,000 people killed since 2006, when the government decided to send in the military to fight drug cartels. Dealing with this violence, including murders and kidnappings, is one of the biggest challenges facing President Claudia Sheinbaum. Since taking office on October 1, she has made it clear that she does not want to declare "war" on the drug cartels. Instead, she plans to continue using social policies to address the root causes of crime, while also improving intelligence gathering to combat violence more effectively.
