A big investigation is happening to find out what caused the deadly wildfires in Los Angeles, which killed at least 24 people and destroyed homes in places like Altadena and Pacific Palisades.

Many people on social media are guessing what started the fires. Some think it was broken power lines, arson (someone setting the fire on purpose), a firework, or even an old fire that started again.
Jose Medina from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) said it's too soon to know for sure. He promised the ATF would give answers after a careful investigation. The ATF is working with the police, the Forest Service, and the US Attorney’s office. Around 75 people, including fire experts, engineers, chemists, and special dogs trained to find chemicals, are working together to investigate.
A video that shows trail runners running from smoke near Pacific Palisades became popular online. Some people thought the runners started the fire, but one of the runners, Beni Oren, said they were just trying to get away from the fire and had nothing to do with starting it.
Some homeowners in Altadena are suing Southern California Edison, a power company, after a video showed flames near one of their power towers. But the company said it doesn't think its equipment caused the fire.
The investigation is still going on, and officials are checking all clues, talking to witnesses, and collecting evidence to figure out what caused the fires.
