The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has announced that applications are now open for UAE nationals to take part in upcoming analog studies under the UAE Analog Programme. This programme is designed to create Earth-based environments that simulate space conditions, helping scientists study how isolation and confinement affect the human mind and body. These studies are a key step in preparing for long-duration space missions beyond Earth’s orbit.

Analog studies play an important role in space research, especially for deep-space missions like those to the Moon and Mars. They allow researchers to test how humans react to being in small, enclosed spaces for extended periods. Scientists can also study physical and mental changes in a controlled environment that mimics weightlessness. These experiments help in improving astronaut training, developing safety measures, and refining strategies for space missions.

During the studies, participants will take part in various experiments. They will be monitored to see how they cope with living in confined spaces and how their bodies react in an environment similar to space. Scientists will also test new space technologies, robotic equipment, habitats, communication systems, and energy solutions. The UAE’s involvement in such advanced research highlights its growing role in global space exploration.

Adnan AlRais, Assistant Director General of the Space Operations and Exploration Sector at MBRSC, emphasized the significance of these studies. He said, “Analog studies are one of the best ways to test mission plans for long space journeys. They help us understand how humans change physically and mentally in space-like conditions. Through this research, we can improve life-support systems, develop solutions for long-term exposure to microgravity, and fine-tune strategies for future Moon and Mars missions. By joining these studies, Emiratis will play a vital role in shaping the future of human space travel.”

MBRSC is looking for UAE nationals between the ages of 30 and 55 who are physically fit and meet specific medical requirements. Selected applicants will undergo a detailed medical examination to ensure they are healthy enough for the study. Psychological evaluations will also be conducted to assess their ability to handle isolation and confinement.

Candidates must have at least a bachelor’s degree, preferably in fields like medicine, engineering, software, or technology. Those with higher degrees or specialized experience will be given preference. Teaching experience is also considered an added advantage. Since the studies follow strict procedures, participants must be committed to staying fit and keeping a record of their physical activities before the program starts. English fluency is a must, as all instructions, documents, and communications will be in English.

The UAE Analog Programme is supported by the ICT Fund under the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority. This initiative marks another major step in the UAE’s journey towards becoming a global leader in space exploration and research.
