An 18-year-old man tragically lost his life due to electrocution while charging his mobile phone on a bus in Malaysia. The incident occurred on November 1 at the Penang Sentral bus terminal in Butterworth, just moments after he boarded an express bus headed to Kuala Lumpur.
Witnesses report that the young man plugged his phone into a socket on the bus to charge it. Approximately ten minutes later, passengers were startled by his scream and noticed him foaming at the mouth. Alarmed by the distressing scene, fellow passengers quickly called for emergency assistance. Emergency responders arrived around 6:20 PM local time, but unfortunately, the paramedics pronounced the teenager dead shortly after their arrival.
An autopsy later confirmed that electrocution was the cause of death. The bus driver recounted that the victim seemed to have suffered a severe electric shock, with visible burn marks on the fingers of his left hand. Reports indicated that the charging cable had melted and the phone had overheated, suggesting a significant failure in the bus's electrical system.

In response to the incident, an initial investigation revealed burn marks on the victim's left fingers, which were believed to have been caused by the electric shock while he was charging his phone. Mr. Abdul Rahman, the assistant commissioner of police, stated that a special task force would investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident to prevent similar occurrences in the future and ensure the safety of passengers.
Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that the transport ministry views the electric shock incident, which resulted in the tragic death of a teenager, with the utmost seriousness. He announced that a special task force would be established to conduct a thorough investigation, and they have been given a deadline of two weeks to submit a complete report on the incident.
The loss of the young man has raised significant concerns about the safety of electrical systems on public transport, highlighting the need for stringent regulations and safety measures to protect passengers in the future.
