Sheikh Hamdan and Sheikh Hazza Kick Off Liwa Festival 2026

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan marked the initiation of the Liwa International Festival 2026, taking place in Liwa within Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra Region. This festive event is set to run until 3 January 2026 and stands as one of the standout winter attractions in the region.

As part of their tour, the leaders explored the festival area, receiving insights into various sporting events, heritage displays, and entertainment components embedded in this year’s agenda. They made a stop at Liwa Village, the centerpiece of cultural and recreational activities during the festival.

The grand opening showcased an electrifying combination of sound, lighting, laser, and drone artistry, culminating in a spectacular fireworks show above the desert landscape. A notable aerial display by Al Fursan, the UAE’s national aerobatic team, received enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Attending the ceremony were numerous senior officials along with members of the ruling family, and representatives from the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, alongside other government bodies involved in the event’s organization.

This festival, organized by DCT Abu Dhabi under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, promises a variety of family-oriented entertainment, live music, and cultural engagements. Highlights include motorsport events, dune adventures, drag racing, freestyle shows, and traditional pursuits like falconry and sand wrestling.

New attractions this year comprise the Extreme Mud Fest, drone exhibitions, hot air balloon experiences, and weekend fireworks. Additionally, a special concert and fireworks display are planned to usher in 2026, coinciding with the launch of the Moreeb Dune Car Championship.

With its blend of adventure, culture, music, and family-oriented fun, the Liwa International Festival underscores Al Dhafra's growing allure as a tourism hotspot, drawing visitors from the UAE and beyond.
