Lewis Hamilton had a tough time in his first race for Ferrari. The seven-time world champion finished in 10th place and was unhappy with his team’s constant radio messages. He struggled with speed and could not move up the order.
The race started on a wet track, making driving very tricky. Norris, who began from pole position, was under pressure from his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri. Piastri was driving fast and setting the quickest lap times, but his team told him to stay behind Norris. On lap 44, Piastri made a mistake in the heavy rain, spinning at a corner and losing places. He managed to recover and finished in ninth place, earning two points.
Max Verstappen, who started third, finished second, just 0.895 seconds behind Norris. He took advantage of Piastri’s mistake and the safety car to get closer to the front. George Russell of Mercedes had a strong race and finished third, taking the last spot on the podium.
The race had a dramatic start even before it officially began. Racing Bull’s Isack Hadjar crashed on the formation lap. Then, Alpine’s Jack Doohan and Williams’ Carlos Sainz, last year’s winner, crashed on the first lap, ending their races early.
Only 14 cars finished the race. Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin hit the wall on lap 34 and had to retire. Later, Red Bull’s Liam Lawson and Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto also crashed, ending their races just 10 laps before the finish. The wet track made it very hard to control the cars, and many drivers struggled.
The race was full of action, and fans saw one of the most exciting Australian Grands Prix in years. Norris’ victory was a big moment in his career, while Verstappen and Russell completed the podium.
