Gabriel Landeskog finally celebrated his long-awaited comeback goal after more than three years. The Colorado Avalanche captain, who missed extensive time due to knee surgeries, made his mark in the team’s 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks in Denver. His determination and persistence paid off when he tapped in a rebound midway through the second period, earning a huge cheer from the home crowd.
The Colorado Avalanche continued their strong form, registering their fourth straight win and sixth in their last seven games. With this victory, they now lead the NHL with 27 points. The team displayed confidence and control throughout the game, proving once again why they are one of the league’s strongest sides this season.
The Avalanche wasted no time making an impact. Just 28 seconds into the game, Artturi Lehkonen struck first with a powerful one-timer from the right circle. The play began when Anaheim turned the puck over in their own zone. Cale Makar found Nathan MacKinnon, who quickly passed to Lehkonen. His precise shot beat Anaheim goalie Lukas Dostal, giving Colorado a perfect start.
Nathan MacKinnon once again proved why he is among the league’s top scorers. With three assists in this game, MacKinnon extended his point streak to ten consecutive matches. His consistent form has been vital to the Avalanche’s dominance this season, and he now sits at 32 points — the highest in the NHL.
The Anaheim Ducks responded late in the first period. At 18:16, Leo Carlsson tied the game when he converted a pass from Jacob Trouba. The goal extended Carlsson’s personal point streak to 11 games, showing the young forward’s growing importance to the Ducks’ attack. Despite their recent seven-game winning streak, the Ducks found Colorado’s defense too strong to overcome in this matchup.
Both goaltenders delivered outstanding performances during the game. Colorado’s Scott Wedgewood made 35 saves, securing his team’s victory with several key stops. On the other end, Anaheim’s Lukas Dostal faced heavy pressure but still managed 32 saves. Despite the loss, his agility and focus kept the Ducks competitive for most of the match.
In the second period, Landeskog’s persistence paid off. When Valeri Nichushkin’s shot rebounded off Dostal, Landeskog was perfectly positioned in front of the net to push the puck in. This goal marked his first regular-season score since March 5, 2022. The crowd erupted in applause, recognizing the emotional moment for their long-time captain, who had two goals disallowed earlier this season.
The Avalanche increased their advantage early in the third period. Martin Necas found himself at the right place at the right time, redirecting the puck twice before it crossed the line at 7:02. The goal came during a power play, adding to Colorado’s reputation as one of the league’s most dangerous teams with the man advantage.
With just over three minutes left in regulation, Anaheim pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker. However, the strategy backfired as Parker Kelly scored an empty-net goal at 17:39, sealing a 4-1 victory for the Avalanche. It was a fitting end to a game that showcased Colorado’s strong teamwork and balanced performance across all lines.
This win keeps the Avalanche at the top of the NHL standings. Their offense continues to fire, their defense remains solid, and players like MacKinnon, Lehkonen, and Landeskog are leading by example. The team’s chemistry and momentum are growing stronger with every game, making them a clear favorite for a deep playoff run this season.
