Abu Dhabi: Khalifa University of Science and Technology has strengthened its global academic standing by securing the 6th position worldwide in Petroleum Engineering in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026. The university has moved up from 7th place in 2025, marking a significant achievement in one of its core disciplines.
The latest rankings highlight consistent progress across multiple engineering fields. The broader category of Engineering and Technology recorded a score of 131, while Electrical and Electronic Engineering improved to 92nd position globally. Notably, Chemical Engineering made a remarkable jump into the global Top 100, securing 94th place after being ranked in the 151–200 range last year.
In total, Khalifa University has achieved rankings in 15 subjects across various categories in the 2026 QS Rankings. Among these, three subjects are now placed within the global Top 100, while another three rank among the Top 150 worldwide.

In a significant milestone, the university has also received its first-ever ranking in Natural Sciences, placing 220th globally, further expanding its academic footprint.
Speaking on the achievement, Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University, emphasized that the institution’s progress reflects a strategic focus on impactful research and innovation. He highlighted that advancements in globally competitive disciplines align closely with the UAE’s long-term priorities, especially in energy and technology.
He added that the consistent rise in rankings demonstrates the university’s commitment to excellence in research, academic quality, and infrastructure, while also contributing to economic diversification and the development of future-ready talent in the region.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 evaluated 6,277 institutions worldwide, with 1,912 universities ranked across 55 subjects and five broad academic areas, resulting in over 21,000 ranking entries.
