Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed and Microsoft Vice Chair Discuss Cooperation

H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, recently held a significant meeting with Brad Smith, Vice Chair and President of Microsoft, at the Abu Dhabi Energy Centre. This meeting was part of the ENACT Majlis, which convened over 80 leaders from the global energy, technology, and investment sectors.

During their discussions, Sheikh Khaled and Smith focused on exploring strategic partnerships among various companies, institutions, and entities operating in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), energy, and climate. They emphasized the importance of leveraging opportunities for collaboration to drive innovation and progress in these crucial sectors.

The meeting underscored the ongoing cooperation between ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), Masdar, G42, and Microsoft. Together, they aim to harness advanced AI technologies and solutions to adapt to rapid global changes, transform the energy landscape, and implement low-carbon energy solutions. These efforts are crucial for supporting the infrastructure necessary for a thriving AI ecosystem.

A key topic of the meeting was how to maximize Microsoft's technological expertise, particularly in AI, to assist the UAE and Abu Dhabi in achieving their clean energy goals. The discussions included strategies to foster the growth of the AI ecosystem across various sectors, thereby enhancing the region's capabilities in advanced technology.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the strategic collaboration between Microsoft, ADNOC, and Masdar, which is focused on transitioning Microsoft’s data centers to renewable energy sources. This initiative aligns with global sustainability goals and showcases the commitment of the three entities to advance clean energy solutions, positioning the UAE and Abu Dhabi as leaders in green technology.

Sheikh Khaled and Smith also discussed the competitive advantages that the UAE and Abu Dhabi offer, including a robust business infrastructure, progressive legislative frameworks, and attractive incentives for businesses and investors. These factors enhance the region's appeal as a premier destination for international companies seeking growth across diverse sectors.

This meeting followed the recent release of a joint report on October 31, 2024, by ADNOC, Masdar, and Microsoft, titled "Powering Possible: AI and Energy for a Sustainable Future." The report highlights AI's potential in optimizing energy efficiency, managing complex systems, reducing emissions, and supporting a net-zero future, all while addressing the increasing energy demands driven by AI technology.

Notable attendees of the meeting included Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC's Managing Director and Group CEO; Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi; and Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. The gathering reflected a strong commitment to advancing the UAE's and Abu Dhabi's vision for a sustainable and technologically advanced future.
