DP World's Jebel Ali Port achieved a milestone in July, setting a new monthly container throughput record by handling 1.4 million TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units). This new record surpasses the previous high set in 2015. The record performance follows a robust showing in the first half of 2024, during which the port processed 7.3 million TEUs, marking a 3.9% increase year-on-year. This growth was driven by strong inbound cargo movement, particularly from major Asian markets such as China, Japan, and South Korea.

The port’s record-breaking achievement underscores the ongoing success of Dubai's economic strategy, particularly the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to position the city as a leading global trade hub. The expansion of Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) has played a crucial role in driving container traffic, with Jafza now hosting nearly 10,500 companies. This expansion continues to attract leading international corporations, contributing to increased trade volumes and economic diversification.
His Excellency Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World Group, commented, "For over 45 years, Jebel Ali has been a catalyst for the growth of trade and the economy in Dubai and the wider region. As one of the largest and most efficient ports globally, it remains a cornerstone of our global network, significantly contributing to Dubai's economic vision and regional trade. We are committed to building on this achievement, driving innovation, and further strengthening Dubai's position as a leading global trade hub."
Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO & Managing Director of DP World GCC, added, "This new record at Jebel Ali Port highlights our commitment to excellence in global trade. The port's consistent ability to achieve new milestones in container handling reflects our strategic investments in technology, infrastructure, and the dynamic trade environment in Jafza and Dubai. We anticipate continued growth as we leverage our global network and explore new trade opportunities arising from our national trade agreements."
Jebel Ali Port's growth is part of DP World’s broader global success, with total consolidated throughput for the group reaching 42.58 million TEUs, up 6.8% compared to the same period in 2023. The UAE’s proactive efforts to strengthen bilateral trade through Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPAs) have been instrumental in increasing trade volumes. Recent agreements with Chile, Mauritius, Colombia, and South Korea are expected to further boost container traffic through Jebel Ali Port.
Additionally, DP World’s strategic focus on expanding its logistics and digital platforms is set to enhance operational capabilities and customer service, supporting continued growth in the future.
