The United States and Iran are going to have important talks again on Saturday in Rome about Iran's nuclear program. These talks come after the first round of talks, which both sides called “constructive.” The discussions are happening one week after both countries had indirect talks in Muscat, Oman. These talks were the first ones at such a high level since 2018 when U.S. President Donald Trump decided to leave the nuclear deal with Iran.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Rome on Saturday. He will join U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff for talks, which are being helped by Oman. These talks are a big step in trying to solve the issues over Iran’s nuclear program, as both countries are looking for a way to fix their differences.
The talks are very important because there has been a lot of tension between the U.S. and Iran for many years. The U.S. and other Western countries have accused Iran of trying to make nuclear weapons. However, Iran says that its nuclear program is only for peaceful uses, like making energy, and not for building bombs.
The U.S. and Iran have not had good relations since Iran’s 1979 Islamic revolution, which led to the break in diplomatic ties. When President Trump came back into office, he started using a “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran, which included putting heavy sanctions on the country.
On Friday, Foreign Minister Araghchi said that he saw some seriousness from the U.S. during the first talks but still had doubts about what the U.S. really wants. He said, “Even though we have serious doubts about the American side, we will still take part in tomorrow’s talks.”
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei posted on social media early Saturday. He said that Iran knows the road ahead will not be easy. “We understand that it will not be an easy path, but we are moving forward with our eyes open and learning from past experiences,” he said.
These talks are very important for both countries. They hope to find a way to work together and solve the issues about the nuclear program. But because of the long history of distrust, no one knows for sure what will happen next.
