Fadhlina Sidek has committed to a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the unfortunate deaths of two trainee teachers from the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Perlis Campus during a kayaking excursion. This tragic event at Pantai Merdeka has raised significant concerns regarding safety measures in educational outdoor activities.
The Ministry of Education (MoE) is conducting a thorough review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) pertaining to outdoor activities in all institutions, aiming to bolster safety protocols and avert future tragedies. Authorities will scrutinize all elements of the program, including oversight and risk assessment.
Fadhlina emphasized the ministry's commitment to accountability and expressed that justice will be sought for the victims' families. She confirmed an active investigation, promising that any breaches of regulations would result in stringent consequences. Organizers of the activity have been temporarily reassigned as the inquiry continues.
The minister also visited Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar to offer her condolences to the families of the victims. This incident has caught national attention, underscoring the pressing need for improved enforcement of safety guidelines in student activities.
