American golfer Chase Koepka is set to make his return to the LIV Golf League, aiming to win back his place through the Promotions event in January. The 31-year-old is finally injury-free and eager to compete after a challenging two years marked by shoulder surgery and missed opportunities.
Koepka expressed his excitement about the chance to compete again, particularly as the Promotions event will be held in Florida, his home state. “For me, the nice thing about the Promotions event is that it’s in Florida, it’s a home event,” Koepka said. “I haven’t been able to play it for the last two years because of injury, so it would be great to have that opportunity. Good golf takes care of itself.”
After being relegated from the LIV Golf League in 2023, Koepka underwent major shoulder surgery that sidelined him for over a year. The rehabilitation process was slow and demanding, keeping him away from competitive golf until January 2024. His return marked the start of a new phase, but regaining form after such a long absence has been an uphill battle.
Koepka made steady progress upon returning but has yet to find the consistency needed to break into top positions. He currently sits 44th in the International Series Order of Merit, far from the top-two ranking required to automatically rejoin LIV Golf next season. Speaking after finishing tied for 43rd at the Singapore Open, Koepka admitted, “It has been up and down. I’ve played some solid weeks, but I haven’t quite put myself in contention to win. That’s the next step for me.”
While Koepka insists that his form has improved, he also recognizes the challenge of converting good play into victories. “It’s not that I’m playing badly — just not well enough to be up there with a chance on Sunday,” he added. His main goal now is to rebuild confidence and rhythm before the all-important Promotions event in early 2025.
The upcoming LIV Golf Promotions event is expected to feature several high-profile names, including Anthony Kim, another former star aiming for a career revival. Both players will compete for limited spots available in the LIV Golf League, making the Florida tournament a decisive test of form and focus.
Like Koepka, 40-year-old Anthony Kim is also fighting his way back into professional golf. After returning to competition in 2023 following a 12-year break due to addiction and mental health struggles, Kim’s road back has been emotional and inspiring. Although he was relegated from LIV Golf in August, he hopes to earn a return through the Promotions event.
Kim shared that part of his comeback journey is about balancing golf with family life. “It is a long way over here. So as much as I want to compete, you know, part of my comeback to golf is being with my family,” he said. Kim plans to play select events next year, focusing on the Asian Tour’s International Series.
Despite his ups and downs, Kim remains determined to continue playing professional golf. “This is something I am looking forward to and yes, regardless, I am going to play for a few more years,” he said. “I do not know how long I want to play golf for, but this is something I am committed to.” His focus, he added, is on effort and consistency: “I am motivated to play as good as I can, work as hard as I can, and you know, the results will speak for themselves.”
For Chase Koepka and Anthony Kim, 2025 will be a defining year. Both golfers are working to re-establish themselves among the elite after long periods away from their best. The LIV Golf Promotions event in Florida will not only test their skills but also symbolize their determination to overcome setbacks and return stronger than ever.
