India, Australia and Canada have announced a new trilateral initiative focused on technology, clean energy and innovation. The announcement was made on Saturday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he met Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg.
The new collaboration, called the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership, aims to bring together the strengths of all three countries to advance critical and emerging technologies. Modi said the partnership will support innovation, secure supply chains, promote clean energy solutions and help expand the use of artificial intelligence for public benefit.
In a joint statement, the three governments said they plan to “strengthen cooperation on critical and emerging technologies” and build on their existing bilateral partnerships. The focus will be on areas like green energy development, resilient supply chains and critical minerals, which are essential for producing advanced technologies.
The statement emphasized that the three nations share a strategic vision for a sustainable and secure future. The partnership will also work on developing and safely deploying artificial intelligence to improve services and create new opportunities for citizens.
Officials from India, Australia and Canada are expected to meet in early 2026 to outline the next steps and begin implementing the initiative.
On the same day, Prime Minister Modi also met UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Modi said his meeting with Starmer brought “new energy” to the India-UK partnership and expressed confidence in further strengthening ties in various sectors. He also held a “very productive” discussion with the UN chief on major global issues.
During the opening session of the G20 Leaders’ Meeting, Modi urged world leaders to rethink global development models and proposed setting up a G20 initiative to counter the growing link between drug networks and terrorism. He also suggested creating a global healthcare response team to strengthen preparedness for future crises.
The new ACITI Partnership marks a significant step in expanding India’s international collaborations, especially in technology, innovation and clean energy—areas that will play a crucial role in shaping the world’s future development.
