The war film Ikkis, helmed by distinguished director Sriram Raghavan and produced by Maddock Films, continues its solid run at the box office since its debut on January 1. The movie, featuring Agastya Nanda, the grandson of Amitabh Bachchan, has raked in Rs 26.35 crore within just nine days of release.
On its ninth day, Ikkis garnered an additional Rs 85 lakh, indicating sustained viewer interest. As reported by industry tracker Sacnilk, the overall Hindi occupancy rate stood at 11.57% on its second Friday (January 9). Attendance varied by showtime, with morning screenings at 6.75%, afternoon shows at 10.43%, evening shows at 13.36%, and the late-night slots achieving the best turnout at 15.74%.
Set against the backdrop of the historic Battle of Basantar during the 1971 Indo-Pak conflict, Ikkis portrays the valiant tale of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, who laid down his life at merely 21 and was posthumously honored with the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military accolade. The film seamlessly fuses gripping combat scenes with poignant storytelling, offering an enthralling cinematic journey.
In addition to Agastya Nanda, the ensemble cast features esteemed actor Dharmendra, Simar Bhatia, Vivaan Shah, Sikandar Kher, and Jaideep Ahlawat. This film holds particular importance as it is the last project of Dharmendra, who sadly passed away last November at the age of 89. Before his death, he delivered a touching message encouraging the audience to support Ikkis, commending director Sriram Raghavan for his artistic vision and the film's emotional richness.
With its potent mix of captivating war drama, remarkable acting, and heartfelt narration, Ikkis has established itself as one of the standout films of the year, resonating profoundly with audiences throughout the nation.
