On Thursday, Nottingham Forest’s Brazilian forward, Igor Jesus, added an anime flair to the game, echoing Goku’s celebratory style after a quick goal in the Europa League.
Substituted into the match, Jesus needed only 82 seconds to score, contributing to Forest’s 2-1 victory at Utrecht. This marked his fourth goal in Europe for the club and his seventh overall this season.
“It was fantastic to net so quickly,” the 24-year-old expressed. “While I was on the bench, my focus was on the game. When the coach called me, I just gave it my all. I aim to keep this momentum going.”
His career began with Coritiba in Brazil, achieving three goals in 24 matches during his 18-year-old season, aiding the club's promotion. After facing difficulties at a higher level, he transitioned to Shabab Al-Ahli in the UAE, where he notched 46 goals in 92 appearances across four years.
Returning to Brazil in 2024 with Botafogo, Jesus played a crucial part in capturing both Serie A and Copa Libertadores titles. His standout performances caught worldwide attention, leading to his Brazil debut in October 2024, where he scored in a 2-1 World Cup qualifying win against Chile.
Tim Vickery, noted South American football analyst, hailed him as “the modern-day Drogba,” especially after he netted the decisive goal against PSG during the Club World Cup group phase.
Jesus’ score was historically significant for Nottingham Forest. They hadn’t celebrated a European away victory since 1995, making this win an essential moment. It keeps Forest in the hunt for a top-eight finish in the Europa League, crucial for progressing to the knockout stages.
Forest manager Sean Dyche noted, “I’m thrilled for our fans. The players are blending well, the results are positive, and I hope this continues.”
