During the conclusion of the 75th session of the Human Rights Council (HRC) on Tuesday, the UAE signed a significant resolution on behalf of the Arab Group, focusing on “capacity-building for Yemen in the field of human rights.” This resolution is a crucial step in supporting Yemen as it navigates its complex humanitarian and development challenges.
The resolution calls for the office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to extend the necessary assistance to the Yemeni government, enabling it to fulfill its human rights commitments and address the urgent needs of the Yemeni people. The emphasis on capacity-building is aimed at strengthening the Independent National Committee’s ability to investigate allegations of human rights violations and breaches of international humanitarian law. This initiative seeks to promote accountability and justice while facilitating essential reforms within Yemen.
Additionally, the resolution reaffirms support for international efforts to establish a comprehensive ceasefire and to end the ongoing conflict in Yemen. It underscores the importance of political dialogue in achieving lasting peace and stability in the region. Another critical aspect of the resolution is its call for the removal of obstacles that hinder the delivery of humanitarian aid and relief to those in need.
