In a major step toward transforming global healthcare, Abu Dhabi’s Future Health initiative, in collaboration with MIT Solve at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has announced five global finalists for the Future Health Challenge.
The initiative highlights Abu Dhabi’s growing leadership in advancing data-driven, anticipatory healthcare systems, especially as the world faces rising challenges from chronic diseases, ageing populations, and limited access to early detection services.
The challenge, themed “Building anticipatory health systems through population sensing,” focuses on developing innovative solutions that enable early detection of health risks, continuous population health monitoring, and a shift toward preventive care.
Global Finalists
The five selected finalists represent cutting-edge innovations from across the world:
SOIK Corporation (Japan): Introduced SPAQ, an AI-powered, community-led model to detect maternal health risks in vulnerable regions.
Huna (Brazil): Developed Huna Cancer Navigator, using AI to analyse routine blood data for early cancer detection and patient engagement.
ThinkMD (Australia): Created a digital platform enhancing frontline care while generating real-time public health insights.
Vector Control Innovations (USA): Presented VectorCam, an AI-based mosquito surveillance system enabling predictive responses in low-resource settings.
Arkangel AI (Colombia): Developed Unread Signal, software that converts clinical notes into early warning indicators across 300+ hospitals in 11 countries.
Next Stage and Awards
The finalists will pitch their solutions at the World Health Assembly in Geneva on May 19. One winner will receive a grand prize of $200,000, while two runners-up will be awarded $50,000 each. Participants will also gain access to a global network of policymakers, investors, and healthcare leaders.
Leadership Perspective
Dr. Asma Al Mannaei, Executive Director at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, emphasised the emirate’s vision: “We are moving beyond treating illness to understanding risks earlier and acting proactively, building a smarter, intelligence-led healthcare system.”
Hala Hanna, Executive Director of MIT Solve, highlighted the global impact: “These innovations show how locally driven solutions can shape the future of global health systems.”
Strong Global Participation
The challenge received 393 submissions from 68 countries, reflecting strong global alignment with Abu Dhabi’s vision for healthcare innovation. Finalists were selected through a rigorous multi-stage evaluation, including live presentations from ten semi-finalists.
Additional Recognitions
Several semi-finalists were also recognised, including teams from Malawi, the UAE, Switzerland, India, and Colombia. Additionally, ten Honourable Mention teams from countries such as India, South Africa, Nepal, and Kenya were acknowledged for their contributions.
Future Opportunities
Selected participants will be invited to showcase their innovations at the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit, scheduled from October 20–22, 2026. The event will provide direct access to key decision-makers in the global health and life sciences sector.
