Grand Egyptian Museum Earns Global Green Building Honor

Egypt has announced a historic milestone as the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) secures the prestigious EDGE Advanced Green Building Certification 2024, making it the first museum in Africa and the Middle East to achieve this distinction. The recognition places GEM among a select few institutions worldwide to meet such advanced sustainability standards.

Located near the iconic Giza Pyramids Plateau, the $1 billion landmark stands as the world’s largest archaeological museum complex, spanning over 490,000 square metres. The museum is set to officially open its doors to the public this Saturday, unveiling an unparalleled journey through 5,000 years of Egyptian civilization.

The Grand Egyptian Museum will house more than 100,000 artefacts, including the complete collection of King Tutankhamun’s treasures, displayed together for the first time in history. Designed with innovation and sustainability in mind, GEM incorporates energy-efficient systems, water-saving technologies, and smart environmental controls that align with Egypt’s Vision 2030 goals for sustainable development.
