flydubai Resumes Daily Flights to Damascus After 12 Years

flydubai, an airline based in Dubai, has started flying to Syria again after almost 12 years. The first flight, FZ 115, landed at Damascus International Airport (DAM) on 01 June 2025. The flight was welcomed with a water cannon salute, a special way to greet planes on important occasions. This flight begins Flydubai’s new daily service to Damascus.

This event brings back air travel between the UAE and Syria after a long gap. His Excellency Hassan Ahmed Al Shehhi, the UAE Ambassador to Syria, was there to welcome the flight. He was joined by Syrian officials, including Mr. Abdul Bari Al-Saj, Deputy Chairman of the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, and Mr. Amjad Nakhkhal, Director of the Authority.

The UAE Ambassador said that they are happy to restart flydubai flights to Syria. He explained that this shows the strong friendship between the UAE and Syria. It also supports better air travel in the region and helps people connect, trade, and travel more easily.

He added that this is a big step towards having more UAE airlines fly to Syria again. It will help bring good services to the Syrian people and make it easier for passengers to travel.

The Ambassador also said the UAE always supports Syria and wants to see the country safe, stable, and growing.
Hamad Obaidalla, flydubai’s Chief Commercial Officer, said that the airline has always worked to connect more places in the region. He said they are excited to fly directly to Syria again. Damascus is an important cultural city, and Flydubai hopes this will help grow travel, trade, and tourism between the two countries.
