flydubai, an airline based in Dubai, has just started a brand-new training program to help students become future pilots. This special program is called the Ab Initio Pilot Training Programme, and it’s part of flydubai’s big plans to grow even more over the next 10 years. The program is made with the help of flight training schools from other countries.
flydubai wants to train new pilots who will fly their growing number of airplanes. Right now, flydubai flies over 130 destinations using its modern Boeing 737 aircraft. The airline has already ordered more than 125 Boeing 737 MAX planes and 30 Boeing 787s. This training program is a great chance for students who dream of flying to join a professional pilot course called the Multi-Pilot License (MPL) and begin a successful flying career.

Why This Program Is Important
Ghaith Al Ghaith, flydubai’s CEO, said that Dubai has become one of the top aviation cities in the world. People from all around the globe move to Dubai to work in aviation. He shared how proud he is that flydubai is helping Dubai grow by hiring and training skilled workers. He also said that this new pilot program gives a great opportunity to Emirati students, residents, and even international students who love aviation and want to become pilots in one of the world’s busiest air travel hubs.
Who Can Join?
The Ab Initio Pilot Training Programme is open to students aged 17 and above who have finished high school. The training will give them everything they need to become commercial pilots. After passing the first part of their training, students (called cadets) will go to flydubai’s Flight Training Centre, where they will learn how to fly a Boeing 737.
What the Training Includes
Captain Ahmad Bin Huzaim, who is the Senior Vice President of Flight Operations at flydubai, explained that this program is made for young people who are interested in flying, even if they have never flown a plane before. He said the training will help these new cadets become co-pilots (also called second officers) on Boeing 737 aircraft.
The course will take about 18 to 24 months, and it includes lessons in flying theory, practicing on simulators, flying real training planes, and finally working on actual flydubai flights. Students will learn not only about flying but also about leadership, teamwork, and making quick decisions, which are very important skills for any good pilot.
Captain Bin Huzaim also said that in the future, flydubai might grow this program to train people for other aviation jobs like airplane maintenance, engineering, and even air traffic control.
How to Apply
To join the program, students must pass several tests. These include online and on-site exams that check their thinking, reaction time, and coordination. They also need to be healthy and pass medical checks. The first group of students is expected to start their training at the end of 2025.
Building a Strong Team
Right now, flydubai has over 6,400 workers from 144 different countries, and more than 1,330 of them are pilots. The airline plans to get 12 new planes this year and is still hiring more people to help with its fast growth. The new Ab Initio program is one of the many ways flydubai is working to train and grow skilled workers for the future.
This new training program shows flydubai’s strong promise to teach, grow, and support the next generation of pilots and aviation workers.
