Colombo, August 1, 2025 – Sri Lanka’s leading private airline, FitsAir, has announced the launch of a new daily direct flight between Colombo and Dhaka, set to commence operations on August 18, 2025. This strategic move aims to boost regional air connectivity, further strengthening business, tourism, and trade ties between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The Colombo-Dhaka route responds to the rapidly increasing demand for direct travel between the two South Asian capitals, driven by growing bilateral economic and commercial relations. According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), the country welcomed over 4,700 Bangladeshi visitors in March 2025 alone—a 260% year-on-year increase. This trend highlights a surge in travel for medical, educational, and leisure purposes.

Speaking about the new service, FitsAir Executive Director Ammar Kasim said, “Our vision is to connect Sri Lanka with key regional economic hubs by offering reliable, affordable, and high-quality air travel. The Dhaka service is another step toward making that vision a reality.”

Dhaka, the bustling capital of Bangladesh, has emerged as a major destination for Sri Lankan travelers, particularly for medical tourism, education, and retail. With this launch, FitsAir provides a modern, efficient, and cost-effective option for passengers and businesses alike.

In addition to passenger services, the new route also strengthens FitsAir’s cargo operations. The Colombo–Dhaka service is expected to play a key role in facilitating freight movement from Bangladesh to Sri Lanka and onwards to regions such as the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, supporting textile, pharmaceutical, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industries.

FitsAir is offering competitive introductory fares along with flexible installment plans for early bookings, targeting both frequent flyers and price-conscious travelers. The airline’s online booking platform ensures a secure and seamless reservation experience, reflecting the carrier’s ongoing investment in digital innovation.

This new route is part of FitsAir’s broader expansion strategy. The airline plans to introduce additional international destinations by the end of 2025, including Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and New Delhi. These planned routes align with Sri Lanka’s long-term goal to reclaim its position as a central aviation hub in Asia.

With its expanding footprint in South Asia, FitsAir continues to emerge as a fast-growing player in Sri Lanka’s international aviation sector, bridging economies, enabling business, and fueling tourism across borders.
