Manila: Beloved Filipino music legend Hajji Alejandro has passed away at the age of 70. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news on Tuesday, April 22, sharing that he died after a fight with stage 4 colon cancer.

Hajji, whose real name was Angelito “Hajji” T. Alejandro, was widely known in the 1970s as the “Kilabot ng Kolehiyala”, which means the heartthrob of female college students. He was admired for his smooth voice, charm, and classic stage presence that won the hearts of many fans across generations.

His partner, Alynna Velasquez, had revealed in March that Hajji was battling cancer. On Tuesday, the Alejandro family released a short statement:

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad and Son, Angelito ‘Hajji’ T. Alejandro.”
They also asked for privacy as they mourn.

He later became a successful solo artist, winning the hearts of many Filipinos with his soulful songs.

One of his most famous hits, "Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika", became a symbol of Filipino musical pride. It remains a favorite among OPM (Original Pilipino Music) fans and is considered one of the most loved songs in Philippine music history.

Just a few months ago, in December 2024, Hajji celebrated his 70th birthday. His daughter, singer Rachel Alejandro, shared a loving message about him on social media. She described him as a man with “youthful good looks,” “amazing talent,” and “strong spirit.”
