Faridabad and Greater Noida witnessed two separate construction disasters on Saturday, leaving five dead and multiple workers injured. The incidents have sent shockwaves through the local communities, raising concerns over construction safety and oversight.
In Faridabad's Harfla area, a three-storey building under construction suddenly gave way. Debris, including large concrete chunks, broken bricks, and twisted iron rods, littered the surrounding streets. Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse, which remains unclear. Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos as workers scrambled to safety amid the falling rubble.
Almost simultaneously, a tragic accident occurred in Rabupura, Greater Noida. A three-storey house under construction in Nagla Hukum Village saw its roof collapse around 11:50 am while workers were removing shuttering from the recently cast slab. The collapse killed a 22-year-old man and injured five others. Local police identified the deceased as Shakir (38), Kamil (20), Zeeshan (22), and Nadeem (25), all residents of Jewar. Some workers from Madhya Pradesh reportedly fled the site after the incident.
Rescue operations were immediately launched at both sites. In Greater Noida, police teams coordinated with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to assist trapped workers. Residents and neighbors rushed to help clear debris, reflecting the community’s urgent response to the disasters.
While investigations are ongoing, these incidents underline the pressing need for strict adherence to construction safety norms. Experts often warn that hurried construction, poor supervision, or substandard materials can lead to such catastrophic outcomes, emphasizing the need for stringent regulatory oversight.
The events have left families grieving and workers questioning safety measures at construction sites. Local authorities have promised a thorough investigation into both collapses, with efforts continuing to locate and assist any remaining injured individuals.
