Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who opened the event, shared how Dubai has become a key player in the film industry. She highlighted that Dubai’s modern infrastructure and creative environment help attract the best filmmakers and talents. With its ambitious projects, Dubai is strengthening its position as a global leader in culture and the arts, making it an ideal place for film production.
She also explained that cinema is a powerful form of creative expression that blends technical skill with artistic vision. It plays an important role in shaping societies, reflecting their challenges, and preserving their cultural heritage.
One of the exciting features of the festival is the Immersive Experience Zone, where digital art created using Artificial Intelligence is on display, along with inspiring murals and installations. Artists Ghaleb Hawila, Abdullah Lutfi, and Mikhail Antykov have contributed their works to this section of the event.
There are also special areas for workshops, seminars, and family-friendly activities. One of these is the 'VIP Barzah' area, where visitors can explore a diverse range of artistic works from across the world.
Festival-goers can enjoy a selection of films chosen from 240 submissions, including entries that are competing in the Al Marmoom Short-Film Competition. This competition features four categories: documentaries, animation, live-action films, and films made using Artificial Intelligence.
The festival also offers over 30 workshops, led by famous creators and film experts. Four of these workshops are organized by the College of Arts and Creative Enterprises at Zayed University. There are also seminars and activities designed to inspire young talents and motivate them to pursue careers in cinema and the arts.
The festival is inspired by the Ghaf tree, a symbol of resilience and the environment, and aims to promote cultural exchange and raise awareness about the importance of protecting nature. Visitors are encouraged to explore the Al Marmoom Desert, one of Dubai’s most important cultural landmarks.
There’s something for everyone at this festival, including performing arts shows, musical performances, and interactive experiences like ‘Create Your AI Movie.’ If you’re into stargazing, you can visit the planetarium for an amazing experience. You can also take a safari bus tour through the beautiful desert reserve or join in a photography competition to capture the stunning landscapes.
With all these activities, the Al Marmoom: Film in the Desert Festival is an unforgettable event for all ages, blending cinema, art, and nature in a unique way.
