Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has started getting ready for the fourth edition of Al Marmoom: Film in the Desert. This exciting festival will happen from January 4 to January 12, 2025, at the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve. The theme for this year is ‘Where Stories Come to Life.’ The festival will give filmmakers a chance to show their films and share their stories with a big audience. It will also help Dubai become a worldwide center for culture and creativity.

The festival will have many fun activities that help the film industry grow in the region. It will bring together filmmakers, experts, and audiences so they can share ideas and experiences. This will inspire new people to join the world of film. Visitors will be able to enjoy watching films, watching live performances, taking part in workshops, listening to talks, seeing art displays, visiting family-friendly areas, and even shopping for food.

This year, the festival’s design is inspired by the Al Ghaf tree, which is an important symbol of strength and heritage in the UAE. The layout of the festival will have a central pathway, like the trunk of the tree, leading to different sections, or “branches.” These branches will show creative works, while the “fruits” of the tree will feature new talent through murals, digital art, and light projections. This design will make the festival fun and exciting for everyone who attends.

One of the main events at the festival will be the Al Marmoom Short-Film Competition. Filmmakers from the UAE, GCC, Arab countries, and other parts of the world will take part in this competition. The categories will include documentaries, animation, live-action films, and films created using artificial intelligence. There will also be live music performances, cultural shows, and art displays celebrating the history of cinema in the UAE. A special section will highlight Emirati culture and traditional crafts, showing Dubai Culture’s dedication to preserving and promoting local heritage.

The festival will have something for everyone—whether you like films, art, music, or just want to have fun with your family. It will be a place to inspire people, bring them together, and give them a chance to experience the joy of creativity. Through Al Marmoom: Film in the Desert, Dubai Culture is supporting the arts and film industry while celebrating the UAE’s rich culture. This event will inspire people and help Dubai continue to grow as a leader in culture and innovation.
