On a historic note, Etihad Airways has inaugurated its maiden non-stop flight from Abu Dhabi to Boston, marking the city as its fourth destination in the United States, joining the ranks of New York, Chicago, and Washington. The journey commenced from Zayed International Airport shortly after 3 a.m. on a Sunday morning, operated by one of Etihad's new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
Captain Majed Al Marzouqi, a proud Emirati pilot leading the momentous flight, expressed his honor at being part of this significant event. "It's a great honor to be the first Etihad pilot to fly into Boston," he shared from the flight deck during the 13-and-a-half-hour voyage. Accompanying him in the cockpit was First Officer Khalid Al Naqbi, who, having never visited Boston before, found himself in a unique position of flying himself to this iconic city.
As the aircraft soared under clear skies, offering a breathtaking view from the cockpit, Captain Al Marzouqi expressed his passion for flying, likening it to some people's enjoyment of fishing. The route spanning over 10,000 kilometers traverses diverse airspace, including territories such as Iraq, Turkey, Poland, Germany, Greenland, Canada, and the northeastern coast of the United States.

Upon reaching cruising altitude, Captain Al Marzouqi and First Officer Al Naqbi handed over the controls to relief pilots Captain Michael Hoong and First Officer Nikhil Singhania before retiring for some rest. Meticulous planning ensured a smooth transition as the aircraft continued its journey toward Boston.
Etihad's commitment to delivering a premium experience was evident onboard, with all 28 business class suites fully occupied. Passengers enjoyed luxurious amenities, including Armani/Casa bedding and Espa toiletries. A bespoke Boston-themed menu featuring delicacies such as lobster rolls and vegetable chowder added to the culinary delight.
Looking ahead, Etihad plans to expand its service to Boston, with daily flights scheduled in the near future. Arik De, the airline's chief revenue and commercial officer, shared plans for increased frequency and the introduction of pre-clearance facilities for US flights, further enhancing the passenger experience.
Boston's appeal as a destination stems from its rich history, diverse culture, and vibrant atmosphere. A hub of education and innovation, it attracts visitors from around the globe. Mr. De highlighted the strong ties between the UAE and Boston, citing significant investments and educational exchanges as driving factors behind the route's popularity.
As Etihad embarks on new routes to destinations like Nairobi, Jaipur, Antalya, and Bali, the airline remains committed to expanding its global network. With plans to reach 150 destinations by 2030, Etihad continues to elevate the travel experience for passengers worldwide.
