England opener Zak Crawley expressed confidence that the team is ready for the first Ashes Test against Australia, starting next week in Perth. Critics had raised concerns about England’s preparation, as the team played only one warm-up match against the England Lions at Lilac Hill. Despite this, Crawley said he felt well-prepared and focused on his role in the side.
Crawley recently scored 82 runs off 101 balls while England posted 426 in the first innings of their match against the Lions. His performance demonstrated his form and readiness for the Ashes series. He emphasized that personal preparation and mindset are key to handling the challenges of international cricket, regardless of limited practice matches.
Crawley highlighted the benefits of the limited tour preparation, saying it helped the players get used to the weather and local conditions, including dealing with the flies common in Western Australia. He believes these small adjustments will contribute positively when the Ashes series begins at Perth Stadium, a venue known for its large capacity and energetic atmosphere.
The 27-year-old said he is especially excited to return to Perth, where he has played in the Big Bash League for the Perth Scorchers. Crawley has personal ties to the city, including friends and a former batting coach, making the upcoming match particularly meaningful for him. He described Optus Stadium as an “unbelievable ground” and is looking forward to the support from English fans attending the match.
Crawley expressed that this Test match would be a special moment in his career, especially since he missed playing in Perth previously due to COVID-19 restrictions. He is eager to open the batting for England in front of a large crowd and hopes to make the most of the opportunity. His focus remains on contributing to the team’s success and setting the tone for the five-match Ashes series.
Crawley concluded that while preparation time is often debated, the team is in good shape mentally and physically. His focus is on performing his role effectively and helping England compete strongly in the series. With the first Ashes Test in Perth just days away, Crawley and his teammates are optimistic about starting the series on a positive note.
