In a breathtaking display of ambition and national pride, the UAE flag, alongside portraits of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, was raised atop a peak in the French Alps. The symbolic feat was part of the ‘Our Flag at the Summit’ initiative, capturing the spirit of Emirati determination and excellence.

From Desert Dunes to Snowy Peaks

Coinciding with the 54th Eid Al Etihad celebrations, the expedition carried the slogan ‘From Desert Dunes to Snowy Peaks,’ reflecting the UAE’s journey from humble beginnings to global prominence. The initiative was a collaboration between Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office, and the UAE Skiers Academy, highlighting the Year of the Community and the nation’s values of unity and family.

For the first time in its 14-year history, the UAE Skiers Academy partnered with a government entity to undertake this challenging ascent. The team included a father and his sons, symbolising the importance of community cohesion and shared national pride.

Rigorous Training for a Peak Achievement

Ten of the UAE’s most skilled skiers underwent an intensive training programme to prepare for the harsh Alpine conditions. The journey began in Dubai, followed by a 10-hour flight to Geneva and a 220-kilometre drive to the Valtourance resort, navigating winding mountain roads and steep ascents. The team braved temperatures between -3°C and -9°C to reach the summit over 3,300 metres above sea level.

On the peak, they unfurled a 3x1-metre portrait of Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid alongside the UAE flag. The national anthem echoed across the snowy heights, with the summiteers documenting the historic moment in photographs that symbolise pride, loyalty, and the UAE’s global aspirations.

Inspiring Patriotism and Humanitarian Spirit

Launched 14 years ago, the ‘Our Flag at the Summit’ initiative aims to inspire young Emiratis to pursue excellence and reflect national values through sports and humanitarian action. By planting the UAE flag on prominent mountains worldwide, the initiative highlights the nation’s dedication to leadership, innovation, and generosity.

The French Alps expedition stands as a testament to the UAE’s unwavering commitment to national pride, teamwork, and ambition—showing that Emiratis are ready to conquer challenges and showcase their country’s values on international platforms.
