Following a record storm that inundated Dubai earlier this week, Emirates and its sister airline, flydubai, have resumed normal operations at Dubai airport. The deluge flooded taxiways, resulting in flight diversions, delays, and cancellations, affecting thousands of passengers.
Emirates, Dubai's flagship carrier, bore the brunt of the disruption, with nearly 400 flights cancelled and many more delayed. Tim Clark, the president of Emirates, reported the significant impact of the storm, which prompted the suspension of passenger check-in and transit operations at Dubai International Airport, a crucial global travel hub.

The aftermath of the storm left numerous travelers stranded, prompting Emirates to provide 12,000 hotel rooms and 250,000 meal vouchers to affected customers. However, clearing the backlog of rebooked passengers is expected to take several days.
Similarly, flydubai, operating from Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, returned to its full flight schedule on Saturday following the weather-related disruption.
Despite efforts to restore normalcy, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) continues to grapple with the aftermath of the flooding. Roads connecting Dubai and Abu Dhabi remain partially submerged, leading to logistical challenges such as product shortages in Abu Dhabi, where supermarkets and restaurants have struggled to receive deliveries from Dubai.
Researchers have linked extreme weather events like Tuesday's storm to climate change, foreseeing heightened temperatures, increased humidity, and a greater flood risk in the Gulf region. The UAE's lack of drainage infrastructure to manage heavy rainfall exacerbates the vulnerability to flooding, highlighting the urgent need for adaptation measures.
