SpaceX, the space technology company led by Elon Musk, is reportedly preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) in 2026, aiming to raise over $25 billion and achieve a valuation exceeding $1 trillion. The potential listing is expected to take place around June or July next year, according to sources close to the matter.
The IPO would mark one of the largest in recent history, reflecting SpaceX’s expanding ambitions beyond launching rockets. Reports suggest the company has already begun discussions with major investment banks to structure the offering, positioning it as a milestone in Musk’s broader vision of space-based infrastructure.
A portion of the proceeds from the IPO is expected to be directed toward building space-based data centers. These centers would leverage advanced chips to process vast amounts of information, supporting SpaceX’s growing satellite communication network and deep-space infrastructure. Analysts note that this move could accelerate the company’s efforts in data-driven space services, connecting Earth and orbit with faster, more reliable networks.
This push into space data infrastructure aligns with Musk’s global expansion strategy. Last year, his AI venture xAI announced a partnership with Saudi Arabia-backed Humain to develop a 500-megawatt data center in the kingdom, powered by Nvidia chips. Experts see this as a signal that Musk is integrating space technology with AI and high-performance computing on a global scale.
The IPO chatter follows Musk’s clarification on previous speculation suggesting an $800 billion valuation through a stock sale. Musk emphasized that SpaceX has been generating positive cash flow for several years and regularly conducts stock buybacks twice a year to provide liquidity for employees and investors, highlighting the company’s financial stability ahead of a public listing.
If executed as planned, the IPO could reshape both the aerospace and technology sectors, setting new benchmarks for valuations and investment in space infrastructure.
