In a significant move to enhance bilateral industrial ties, Deputy Premier for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir held a meeting with Spanish Ambassador Alvaro Iranzo. The discussions focused on boosting industrial investments between Egypt and Spain, emphasizing the mutual benefits of such cooperation.
During the meeting, El-Wazir provided the ambassador with insights into the ministry’s upcoming initiatives, including plans to organize an exhibition aimed at highlighting the specific production needs of manufacturers in Egypt, particularly regarding supplies and spare parts for railway units. This exhibition is expected to serve as a platform for Spanish companies to explore opportunities in the Egyptian market.

El-Wazir emphasized the importance of attracting Spanish investment into key sectors of the Egyptian economy. He highlighted priority areas such as the manufacturing of equipment and production components for new and renewable energy projects, including solar panels and wind turbines. Additionally, he pointed out the need for investments in water desalination and wastewater treatment technologies, underscoring Egypt's commitment to advancing sustainable development through these initiatives.
The minister reiterated the Egyptian government’s readiness to provide support and remove any obstacles faced by Spanish companies operating in the country. He expressed confidence that Spanish firms could establish projects in Egypt that would not only benefit the local market but also enhance the country’s export capabilities.
In response, Ambassador Iranzo expressed Spain’s eagerness to strengthen cooperation between the industrial and transport ministries of both countries in the near future. He noted that the sectors identified as priorities for Egypt align well with Spain’s industrial objectives, evident in the substantial number of Spanish companies currently active in energy generation and seawater desalination in the region.
The two officials also discussed the progress of several ongoing joint projects and future collaborations, particularly focusing on the partnership with Spain’s CAF company, which is responsible for maintaining 39 trains on Cairo Metro Line 2 and 23 trains on Line 1. This cooperation is seen as a vital step in enhancing the efficiency of Egypt’s transportation infrastructure while further solidifying the economic ties between Egypt and Spain.
Both parties remain optimistic about the potential for increased investment and collaboration, reflecting a shared vision for growth and development in key industrial sectors.
