The Baltimore Ravens earned an important 23-16 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday in a hard-fought and dramatic NFL matchup. The game stayed close from the opening drive until the final minutes, but one surprising play turned the result completely. Tight end Mark Andrews, known mainly for catching passes, became the unexpected hero when he scored the first rushing touchdown of his entire career. His 35-yard run on a fourth-and-1 play secured Baltimore’s fourth straight win and pushed their season record to 5-5.
The game took place in Cleveland, where the Browns entered the matchup with a 2-8 record. Although Cleveland struggled on offense, their defense, especially star pass rusher Miles Garrett, kept the game competitive for most of the day.
With just over three minutes left in the game, the Ravens faced a crucial fourth-and-1 situation. On the previous play, the Browns had stopped Derrick Henry at the line of scrimmage, creating a stressful moment for Baltimore. Everyone in the stadium expected the Ravens to run the ball straight ahead again. Instead, the team called a clever and unexpected play. Andrews took a direct snap, but instead of pushing forward, he spun around the outside and ran along the right side of the field. There were no Cleveland defenders in his way, and he raced untouched into the end zone.
This touchdown broke a 16-16 tie and became the turning point that sealed the win for Baltimore. Before the winning run, Andrews also made history by becoming the Ravens’ all-time receiving yards leader, passing former star Derrick Mason.
The game also marked the first NFL appearance for rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders of the Browns. Sanders, the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, entered at halftime after Cleveland’s starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel left the game with a concussion. The Browns hoped Sanders could bring some energy to their offense, but the young quarterback struggled in difficult conditions against a strong Baltimore defense.
Sanders finished the game with four completions on 16 attempts for 47 yards. He also threw one interception but showed some mobility with 16 rushing yards and avoided losing a fumble that Cleveland recovered.
Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson had an up-and-down game. He threw for 193 yards but also threw two interceptions. Despite his mistakes, Jackson made several important plays, including a long pass to Zay Flowers that helped set up a touchdown by Derrick Henry in the second quarter.
On the Browns’ side, Miles Garrett had another dominant performance. He recorded four sacks, giving him a remarkable 11 sacks in his last four games. Garrett now has 15 sacks this season and continues to be one of the league’s most dangerous defensive players.
The Browns scored many of their early points thanks to Baltimore mistakes. In the second quarter, Ravens rookie punt returner Lajohntay Wester failed to catch a windy punt, and Cleveland recovered the ball deep inside Baltimore territory. This allowed the Browns to kick a field goal and take a 6-3 lead.
A few minutes later, another error hurt Baltimore. Lamar Jackson’s short pass bounced off running back Keaton Mitchell’s hands and landed directly into the arms of Devin Bush. Bush ran it back for a touchdown, giving Cleveland a 13-3 lead. It was his first career interception in six years.
Baltimore responded quickly to the defensive touchdown. Lamar Jackson led a quick 63-yard drive, highlighted by a long run after the catch from Zay Flowers. Derrick Henry finished the drive with a powerful 1-yard run to cut Cleveland’s lead to 13-10.
From that point on, the Ravens slowly gained control of the game. Their defense tightened, their offense avoided major mistakes, and Mark Andrews delivered the final blow with his long touchdown run.
This victory keeps the Ravens in a competitive position for the AFC playoff race. After a slow start to the season, winning four consecutive games gives the team confidence as they move into the second half of their schedule. For the Browns, the loss drops them to 2-9, making their playoff hopes very slim.
