Dubai International Airport (DXB) has announced that it is set to welcome a record 4.3 million passengers in the first 15 days of 2025. This is expected to be the busiest start to January ever for the airport. The highest daily traffic is predicted for January 3, with more than 311,000 passengers expected to pass through the airport.

On average, about 287,000 passengers are expected to travel through DXB each day during this time. According to Dubai Airports, the operator of DXB and Dubai World Central (DWC) at Al Maktoum International, this traffic is 8% higher than the same period last year and 6% higher than pre-pandemic numbers from 2018-2019. DXB is seeing traffic levels similar to its busiest months.

This surge in passengers reflects an increase in international travelers flying out after the holidays, along with UAE residents returning from their winter vacations.

Before the school winter break in December 2024, DXB expected to see over 5.2 million passengers between December 13 and 31. During this period, 1.7 million passengers were expected to arrive in Dubai, and 1.5 million were set to depart from the airport, which remains the world’s busiest.

Dubai Airport has already increased its passenger forecast for 2024 after a strong summer. The updated prediction now targets 93 million passengers by the end of the year, surpassing the original estimate of 91.8 million. This is ahead of the original projection, which had expected this number to be reached by the end of 2025.

CEO of Dubai Airports, Paul Griffiths, stated last year, “We are ahead of schedule, and we’re hoping to see 93 million by the end of this year. We might even reach 100 million in the next couple of years.”

To keep up with growing passenger traffic, the Dubai government has announced plans for a new passenger terminal at DWC. The terminal, which will be built with a record $35 billion investment, is part of Dubai’s broader vision for the future of air travel. When completed, DWC will be able to handle 150 million passengers annually. Eventually, this will increase to 260 million passengers and 12 million tons of cargo each year.

The new terminal will feature five runways, a futuristic design, and seamless connectivity between various modes of transportation. The aim is to make this terminal a leader in global air travel, providing a world-class experience for passengers for the next 50 years.
