In recent meetings, officials from the Dubai Event Security Committee and DWTC discussed critical logistical arrangements, traffic coordination, and elevated security protocols necessary to manage the anticipated influx of attendees. Special emphasis has been placed on developing effective parking solutions, managing visitor flow, and ensuring accessibility to public transport.
Major General Abdulla Ali Al Ghaithi, the Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police and Head of the Dubai Event Security Committee, confirmed that all necessary preparations have been completed to ensure GITEX Global’s success. He highlighted the collaborative effort between police, government entities, and private organizations to uphold Dubai’s esteemed reputation for hosting major international events.
To alleviate potential congestion during the event, Major General Al Ghaithi urged drivers approaching the Dubai World Trade Centre to adhere to traffic regulations and follow instructions provided by authorities. He encouraged the use of alternative routes and recommended monitoring traffic conditions through updates on social media and the Dubai Police app.
For those heading to the Financial Centre area, suggested alternative routes include Al Mustaqbal Street for those coming from Al Meydan Street and Al Sukuk Street for drivers approaching from Sheikh Zayed Road.
Abdulrahman Obaid Abu Al Shawareb, Executive Vice President of Protocol and Security at DWTC, emphasized the importance of a well-coordinated approach among all stakeholders to ensure a smooth experience for attendees. He encouraged visitors to utilize public transportation options and plan their journeys using the GITEX mobile app. This initiative aligns with DWTC’s commitment to enhancing environmental sustainability.
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, announced that thousands of parking spaces would be available at DWTC and nearby locations, including Al Wasl Club, Al Kifaf, Al Jafiliya, and Dubai Mall. Shuttle buses will transport visitors to and from these areas. Contingency plans are in place to divert traffic if parking capacity is reached and to manage traffic flow during peak periods.
Al Banna noted that traffic lights would be monitored and adjusted based on density during busy hours via the Dubai Intelligent Traffic Systems Centre, in conjunction with the on-site operational team. Smart digital signage will direct visitors to public transport options, including metro and bus services, as well as alternative parking facilities when the primary ones are full. Advisory messages will also be provided for road users.
Metro services will operate as usual throughout the event, with provisions to reduce waiting times during peak attendance. A dedicated taxi area, accommodating up to 300 vehicles, will be available near the venue. Additionally, shuttle buses will facilitate transport between the DWTC Metro Station and Max Station, as well as between GITEX Global parking areas.
Dubai Harbour, another key location for GITEX Global 2024, is expected to host a significant number of visitors. Al Banna confirmed that ample parking would be provided at the venue, along with shuttle bus services transporting guests from Palm Jumeirah’s multi-storey car park and Nakheel Metro Station. Marine transport services will also be operational from Skydive parking to the event site.
Traffic lights around King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street and adjacent roads will be monitored and adjusted based on real-time traffic conditions, and shuttle buses will connect visitors between Dubai Harbour and the main GITEX Global site at DWTC.
This coordinated effort demonstrates Dubai's commitment to delivering a world-class experience at GITEX Global 2024, further solidifying the emirate's status as a global hub for major events.
