Focus on Sustainability and Green Energy Goals
The meeting mainly discussed Dubai’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and lead in energy innovation. This is part of the Emirate’s larger plan to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The Council reviewed the latest updates to Dubai’s Green Building regulations. These rules are an important part of the city’s sustainability plans. Their goal is to reduce carbon emissions by making new buildings more energy and water efficient. In the long run, Dubai aims to turn all new buildings into zero-energy structures, which means they will produce as much energy as they consume. This move supports Dubai’s efforts to promote a green economy and meet international environmental standards.
Strengthening Rules for Petroleum Product Trade
Another major topic covered was the regulation of petroleum product trade in Dubai. The Council highlighted the success of Executive Council Resolution No. (16) of 2019, which introduced a committee to oversee the trading of petroleum products.
This committee has played a key role in improving safety standards and reducing risks. It has also ensured that distributors follow strict compliance rules, which has made the sector more secure and aligned with Dubai’s economic and environmental goals.
Commitment to a Clean Energy Future
During the meeting, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer reaffirmed Dubai’s strong commitment to sustainability. He stressed that the city is following the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into a net-zero economy.
Al Tayer highlighted that Dubai is speeding up the implementation of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. The goal is to generate 100% of the Emirate’s energy from clean sources by 2050.
He said, “Through these initiatives, we aim to keep Dubai at the forefront of global green innovation and energy transformation.”
Boosting Safety and Sustainability in Energy Management
HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Council, also shared his thoughts. He explained that Dubai is building a strong framework to ensure safety, sustainability, and long-term economic stability in the energy sector.
“Our efforts focus on creating detailed action plans, deploying specialised inspection teams, and enforcing strong regulations. This ensures Dubai continues to be a role model for energy governance, both nationally and regionally,” Al Muhairbi stated.
