Under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Expo City Dubai became the epicenter of global urban dialogue on Sunday as it hosted the Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum 2025 at the iconic Al Wasl Plaza. The prestigious event brought together over 150 mayors and leaders from 300 cities worldwide, marking the first time in its 29-year history that this influential summit was held in the Middle East.

The Asia Pacific Cities Summit 2025 reflects Dubai’s growing stature as a global hub for innovation, sustainability, and future-ready urban development. The summit was officially opened by Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and CEO of Expo City Dubai Authority; His Excellency Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary General of The Executive Council of Dubai; and The Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Councillor Adrian Schrinner.

Speaking at the event, H.E. Abdulla Al Basti highlighted Dubai’s mission to strengthen global collaboration: “As a platform for connection and a hub for innovation, Dubai is proud to host this summit that promotes sustainable urban growth and inspires cities to enhance liveability, equity, and economic development.”

The Asia Pacific Cities Summit 2025 aims to foster collaboration between city leaders to address key global challenges — from sustainability and smart infrastructure to urban resilience and economic transformation. The opening ceremony dazzled guests with a spectacular light projection show on the Al Wasl Dome, accompanied by a soulful performance from the Firdaus Orchestra, symbolizing Dubai’s fusion of culture, creativity, and innovation.

Speakers and mayors emphasized the power of partnership, shared learning, and action-oriented collaboration to improve citizens’ quality of life. The event will run until October 29 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, featuring keynote sessions, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities designed to build smarter, greener, and more inclusive cities.

As Expo City Dubai continues to evolve as a symbol of sustainable progress, this summit reinforces the city’s leadership on the global stage — where innovation meets inspiration and where cities come together to shape a better future for all.
