The Sacramento Kings secured a thrilling 105-104 victory over the Utah Jazz in their home opener on Friday night. Domantas Sabonis delivered the game-winning basket with just 6.4 seconds remaining, ensuring a dramatic finish for the Kings. The game was closely contested throughout, with neither team leading by more than eight points.
Sabonis had a strong performance, recording a double-double with 12 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. His decisive follow-up shot in the final seconds, despite missing the free throw, proved to be the difference in the game. The offensive rebound and quick finish under pressure highlighted Sabonis’ presence and composure in critical moments.
Reserve player Malik Monk contributed 20 points to the Kings’ total, while Dennis Schroder added 17 points. Zach LaVine was instrumental in the late stages, scoring seven of his 31 points in the final minutes to keep Sacramento competitive. LaVine’s timely 3-pointer and interior hoop helped swing momentum back to the Kings after trailing Utah.
The last four minutes of the game saw both teams trading leads multiple times. Utah’s Lauri Markkanen gave the Jazz a 104-103 advantage with a pair of free throws, but Sabonis’ clutch basket immediately after put Sacramento back on top. Keyonte George missed a potential game-winning 21-foot shot for Utah as time expired, sealing the Kings’ victory.
Despite the loss, the Jazz had notable performances from Markkanen, who scored a game-high 33 points and connected on four 3-pointers. Keyonte George recorded 18 points and 10 assists, while Brice Sensabaugh contributed 15 points. Jusuf Nurkic added 11 rebounds off the bench, and Utah out-rebounded Sacramento 50-33.
Sacramento outshot Utah with a 48.2% field goal percentage compared to the Jazz’s 44.2%. Sabonis made six of his nine attempts, while LaVine converted 10 of 18 shots. Both teams showcased balanced scoring, with multiple players contributing to a highly competitive and evenly matched game.
The Kings rebounded from a season-opening loss to the Phoenix Suns, showcasing resilience and teamwork. Sacramento displayed strong offensive execution and crucial defensive stops in the closing moments. Fans witnessed an exciting game that underscored the Kings’ ability to perform under pressure in front of their home crowd.
