His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sharjah Maritime Academy (SMA), chaired the Board of Trustees meeting at the Academy’s headquarters in Khorfakkan, reaffirming Sharjah’s commitment to excellence in maritime education.

His Highness praised the Sharjah Maritime Academy for achieving global standards in maritime training and education, placing it alongside the world’s top academies. He commended the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, and students for their dedication, teamwork, and determination, highlighting that this success was the result of collective effort, integrity, and perseverance.

The Ruler of Sharjah emphasized that the Sharjah Maritime Academy continues to make remarkable progress every year. He personally monitors Khorfakkan’s development across various sectors, especially education, which he said is reflected in students’ strong academic performance and discipline. The supportive learning environment within the campus and students’ commitment to knowledge have been key to this continued success.

During the meeting, the Board reviewed several agenda items, including academic development, cooperation with international institutions, and budget approvals. The Board approved the Sharjah Maritime Academy’s budget for the 2025–2026 academic year and new regulations for postgraduate programmes in maritime specialisations, reinforcing Sharjah’s vision for higher maritime education excellence.

Dr Hashim Abdullah bin Sarhan Al Zaabi, Chancellor of Sharjah Maritime Academy, presented a detailed report highlighting the Academy’s academic and research accomplishments, international accreditations, and future growth strategies. The Board also reviewed global collaborations with renowned maritime universities to enhance training and research standards.

The meeting was attended by prominent Sharjah officials and education leaders, including Sheikh Khaled bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Dr Mansour bin Nassar, and Dr Aisha Mohammed Bukhatir Al Shamsi, among others. Their discussions focused on strengthening the maritime education framework and supporting the UAE’s vision of building a world-class academic hub in the maritime field.
