Dubai Health Hosts  with The Royal Marsden NHS to Advance Cancer Care

Dubai Health recently welcomed a delegation from The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, aiming to strengthen collaboration in cancer care. This visit is part of ongoing efforts to share knowledge and explore new advancements in treatment and research. It also highlights the growing partnership between the two organisations, which is focused on improving clinical and operational excellence at Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Hospital, Dubai’s first fully integrated, comprehensive cancer facility.

A Visit Led by Top Medical Experts
The Royal Marsden delegation included some of the most respected figures in the field of cancer care:

Dame Cally Palmer, Chief Executive of The Royal Marsden and National Cancer Director of NHS England.
Professor Nicholas van As, Chief Medical Officer at The Royal Marsden.
Dr. Angela George, Clinical Director of Genomics at The Royal Marsden.
During their visit, they met with Her Excellency Dr. Raja Easa Al Gurg, who serves as a member of the Dubai Health Board of Directors, Chair of Al Jalila Foundation Board of Directors, and Chair of the Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Hospital Steering Committee.

Strengthening Global Ties for Better Cancer Care
H.E. Dr. Raja Easa Al Gurg expressed her appreciation for the visit, highlighting the value of international collaboration in healthcare.
She said:
“It was an honour to welcome Dame Cally Palmer, Professor Nicholas van As, and Dr. Angela George. Their expertise helps us adopt the latest medical innovations and best practices. Strengthening global connections like this is key to enhancing patient care at Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Hospital.”

She also acknowledged the contributions from Al Jalila Foundation, the charitable arm of Dubai Health, which is helping fund the hospital through generous donations from individuals and organisations. She added that such initiatives play a vital role in establishing Dubai as a leading destination for specialised healthcare.

A Partnership Focused on Patient Care
Dame Cally Palmer praised Dubai Health’s commitment to providing world-class cancer treatment.
She said:
“We are excited to partner with Dubai Health to create a model of excellence in cancer care at Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Hospital. It was a privilege to visit their facilities and see how this partnership is already improving cancer care and patient outcomes.”

Touring Dubai’s Healthcare and Community Facilities
As part of their visit, the delegation toured several key healthcare and community facilities, including:

  • Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) – an academic institution focused on advancing medical education and research.
  • Al Jalila Foundation – Dubai’s leading charitable healthcare organisation.
  • Al Jalila Children’s Hospital – the first dedicated children’s hospital in the UAE.
  • Dubai Health Operations Centre – a hub for managing healthcare services and patient care.
  • Majlis Al Amal – a community centre offering support and wellness services to female cancer patients.

The tour gave the delegation a chance to see Dubai Health’s integrated academic health system in action, which combines patient care, education, research, and philanthropy to improve health outcomes.

Enhancing Dubai’s Cancer Care Capabilities
The delegation also visited Emirates Airline facilities to observe the airline’s approach to service excellence. This visit provided insights into how Dubai applies global standards in various sectors, including healthcare.

Dr. Amer Sharif, CEO of Dubai Health and President of MBRU, emphasised the importance of ongoing collaboration with international experts.
He said:
“It was a pleasure to host Dame Cally Palmer and her team. This visit strengthens our shared commitment to continuous learning and partnership. By giving our patients access to globally recognised treatment methods, we can continue delivering high-quality, patient-centred care at Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Hospital.”
