Drivers in Dubai need to pay attention to a new traffic change that will begin on Sunday, July 13. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a temporary traffic diversion at the intersection of King Salman Street and the road leading to Dubai Harbour. This diversion is needed because construction of a new bridge to Dubai Harbour will begin on the same day.
Why Is This Traffic Diversion Needed?
The Dubai government is building a new bridge that will connect King Salman Street directly to Dubai Harbour. This bridge will help make travel smoother and faster for people visiting Dubai Harbour in the future. However, to build this bridge safely, some roads must be closed for many days.

The diversion will remain in place until the construction work is complete. The RTA has not yet announced the exact date when this work will finish, but drivers should be ready for long-term traffic changes in this area.
Which Roads Will Be Closed?
If you are coming from the Marina area and want to go towards Jumeirah or Dubai Harbour, you will face closures on the main roads and left turns along King Salman Street. This means that the normal way you take every day will not be available from Sunday onwards.
The intersection near Dubai Harbour and the left turns along King Salman Street will be closed. So, you cannot directly turn left or go straight from some parts of this road while the construction is happening.
What Is The New Route For Drivers?
To keep traffic moving and reduce confusion, the RTA has planned a new diversion route for all vehicles in that area. If you are driving from Marina towards Dubai Harbour or Jumeirah, you will have to follow these roads:
First, take Al Marsa Street instead of the closed part of King Salman Street.
Then, continue on Al Khayay Street.
After that, drive along Al Naseem Street.
Finally, you will reconnect with King Salman Street after passing the construction zone.
This diversion route will keep traffic flowing safely while the bridge work is in progress. The RTA will place clear traffic signs and boards to guide you along the new route. But it is important for drivers to pay close attention to these signs so they do not miss any turns.
What Did RTA Say To Drivers?
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has advised all motorists to plan their trips properly. They said that drivers should:
Leave their homes early so they can reach work, school, or meetings on time even if traffic is slow.
Follow all traffic signs and signals placed along the diversion route.
Drive carefully near the construction area to avoid accidents and keep workers safe.
Stay patient, as this work is needed for better roads in the future.
The RTA also reminded people that if they do not plan ahead, they might face long delays and traffic jams. Morning and evening rush hours may see heavy traffic near the diversion.
How Will This Construction Benefit Dubai?
Many people are wondering why the government is building this bridge. The new bridge to Dubai Harbour will:
Make it easier for cars and buses to reach Dubai Harbour without causing traffic jams.
Reduce travel time for people coming from Marina, JBR, Jumeirah, and nearby areas.
Help in managing traffic flow smoothly, especially during busy weekends and tourist seasons.
Improve Dubai’s infrastructure and make travel safer and faster for residents and visitors.
What Is Dubai Harbour?
For students or people who are new to Dubai, Dubai Harbour is a beautiful area located near Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah. It has:
The largest marina in the Middle East, with over 1,100 berths for yachts and boats.
A cruise terminal where big ships arrive with tourists from around the world.
Luxury hotels, restaurants, and cafes that attract visitors daily.
A famous observation wheel called Ain Dubai on Bluewaters Island nearby.
Because of its popularity, many vehicles travel to Dubai Harbour every day, and a new bridge will help reduce traffic pressure.
How Should Parents Guide Their Children?
If you are a parent driving your children to school or activities near this area, it is important to:
Tell your children why you are leaving home early so they understand and stay calm in traffic.
Carry water, snacks, or reading books for kids in case there are long delays.
Drive safely and avoid checking your phone while navigating the new route.
Stay updated on traffic changes through RTA announcements or Google Maps before starting your journey each day.
The RTA has requested all residents to cooperate with them during this project. They said that while the construction may cause some problems in daily travel, it will benefit everyone in the long run by improving Dubai’s roads and making travel more comfortable.
They also promised that workers will try to finish the bridge construction as soon as possible, but safety and quality are their main priorities.
