In the first six months of 2025, Dubai Municipality has taken big steps to make sure that all food sold and served in the city is safe, clean, and of high quality. Dubai is not just a beautiful city to live in or visit—it is quickly becoming one of the most trusted places in the world for food safety, food trade, and hospitality.

2,336 New Food Establishments Opened

Between January and June 2025, nearly 2,336 new food establishments were opened across Dubai. These include restaurants, cafés, bakeries, and more. This large number shows that many businesses are choosing Dubai as the perfect place to start or expand their food businesses. It also means more food choices for residents and tourists, and more jobs for people working in the food and hospitality sector.

This strong growth confirms that Dubai is becoming a top destination for food-related investments, offering the right support, infrastructure, and trust for business owners.

Dubai Cleared Over 173,000 Food Shipments—Totaling 4.9 Million Tons

In just six months, Dubai welcomed and cleared about 173,775 food shipments, which added up to 4.9 million tons of food. These shipments came through Dubai’s busy ports and included food items from many countries around the world.

This proves that Dubai plays a key role in global food trade. Thanks to its location and excellent port facilities, Dubai acts as a gateway for food imports and exports in the Middle East and beyond. The city helps connect global food producers with buyers in the region.

Each shipment went through a careful process to make sure everything inside was safe to eat and met the country’s strict food safety rules.

940,000 Food Items Inspected and Cleared

As part of the food safety checks, about 940,000 food items were inspected one by one. This task was done by expert inspectors from Dubai Municipality, who made sure that every food item met the health and safety rules.

This kind of inspection is important because it protects people from eating harmful or spoiled food. It also builds trust. When people eat at a restaurant or buy groceries in Dubai, they can feel confident knowing that proper inspections have been carried out behind the scenes.

77,700 New Food Products Registered

Dubai Municipality also recorded 77,700 new food products in its approved system. This digital registration process helps authorities track food items more easily, check their ingredients, and confirm if they are safe for people with allergies or special dietary needs.

This registration also supports transparency and makes sure food businesses are following the rules properly. It helps the government quickly trace back any issues if a product ever causes a health concern.

Over 34,700 Food Inspections Conducted

Dubai Municipality’s team of food safety experts conducted more than 34,700 inspection visits to different food establishments in the first half of 2025. These visits were carried out across all parts of Dubai to make sure that food businesses are following proper hygiene, cleanliness, and storage guidelines.

These inspections are not done just once. Some restaurants and stores are inspected multiple times, especially if any past problems were found. The goal is not to punish, but to guide and improve the overall food safety system in Dubai.

Smart Technology for Food Safety

Dubai is also making great use of technology to monitor food safety in smarter ways. The Municipality has added advanced digital tools and smart systems to keep a close eye on the entire food supply chain.

This means they can check where the food came from, how it was stored, and how it reached the customers. These tools help the city stay ready for emergencies and act fast if any problem is found.

Dr. Sultan Al Taher’s Message on Food Safety

Dr. Sultan Al Taher, who is the Director of the Food Safety Department at Dubai Municipality, spoke about these achievements and explained why they matter so much.

He said that keeping food safe is a major part of improving the quality of life in Dubai. It’s not just about having food—it’s about having food that people can trust. His team wants to make Dubai a city where every bite is safe and every restaurant follows the best global practices.

Dr. Al Taher also shared that the Municipality is not stopping here. Their mission is to keep improving, using better tools and global knowledge, and becoming a world leader in food safety management.

Supporting Dubai’s Bigger Vision

Dubai’s food safety efforts are part of a bigger vision. The city wants to be one of the best places to live and visit. That means having clean water, safe roads, great schools—and yes, safe and delicious food too.

Dubai wants to build a strong, sustainable food system that lasts for many years. This means protecting the environment, using resources wisely, and making sure that food is always available to everyone, even during hard times like natural disasters or trade delays.

Why This News Matters to Everyone

You might wonder, “Why should I care?” Well, this news shows how serious Dubai is about protecting people’s health. It also shows how organized and prepared the city is when it comes to handling large amounts of food coming from around the world.

For families living in Dubai, this means more food options, better food safety, and healthier lives. For tourists, it means a better experience. And for businesses, it shows that Dubai is open and ready to support growth.

Dubai’s smart planning, fast digital systems, and hard-working teams are making sure that food is more than just tasty—it’s also clean, safe, and trusted.

Dubai’s Food Future Looks Strong

To sum it up, the first half of 2025 has been full of achievements for Dubai in the area of food safety and development. With thousands of new restaurants, nearly a million food items inspected, and millions of tons of food successfully delivered and checked, Dubai is showing the world how to build a safe and smart food system.

Thanks to the ongoing efforts by Dubai Municipality and its use of advanced tools, Dubai is now setting an example for other cities around the world to follow. This is just the beginning of a food future that’s safer, smarter, and stronger.
