On Sunday evening, unusual drone activity was reported by security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC), specifically in the districts of Samba, Rajouri, and Poonch. Officials confirmed that these drones briefly entered Indian airspace from Pakistan before retreating.
In Rajouri, troops in the Nowshera sector reacted swiftly upon detecting a drone hovering over Gania-Kalsian village around 6:35 pm. They opened fire with both medium and light machine guns to dissuade the aerial threat. Shortly after this, another drone equipped with blinking lights was observed over Khabbar village in Teryath, moving from Dharmsal in Kalakote towards Bharakh, which led to increased surveillance measures in the area.
Meanwhile, in Samba district, a drone was seen above Chak Babral village in the Ramgarh sector for several minutes around 7:15 pm. In Poonch, another drone traveled from Tain towards Topa in the Mankote sector at around 6:25 pm. Security forces promptly initiated ground search operations to identify and neutralize any possible threats.
This incident follows the recovery of an arms consignment on Friday night, allegedly delivered via a Pakistan-origin drone in Paloora village near the IB in Samba. Items retrieved included two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds of ammunition, and a grenade. Officials have highlighted that these occurrences emphasize ongoing efforts of cross-border infiltration using drones.
Authorities are advising local residents in border areas to stay alert and report any suspicious aerial activities. Troops are maintaining high alert along all forward sectors, closely monitoring drone movements and executing counter-surveillance operations to avert any security violations.
