DP World has introduced a new electric freight transport system at Jebel Ali Port in partnership with Einride, marking a big step towards making its terminal operations more eco-friendly. The launch of this cutting-edge electric fleet is part of DP World’s plan to reduce carbon emissions and make its logistics greener.

The first phase of this electric fleet is now running 24/7, moving over 204,000 twenty-foot containers each year. This is part of DP World’s larger goal to speed up the shift to cleaner and more sustainable logistics.

Part of a Major Green Partnership
The project is part of a partnership between DP World and Einride, which was signed in May 2024. Their goal is to electrify inter-terminal container transport at Jebel Ali Port, the largest seaport in the Middle East. This partnership is part of DP World’s wider plan to introduce more electric vehicles and use innovative methods to reduce harmful emissions.

Helping the Environment
By switching from diesel-powered trucks to electric vehicles, this project will cut down 14,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions every year. This is equivalent to removing thousands of cars from the road. The project supports DP World’s science-based targets (SBTi) and its ambition to make global trade cleaner and smarter.

Statements from Key Leaders
Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, highlighted the importance of the project. He said:

“Reducing carbon emissions in logistics is one of DP World’s top goals. We are committed to electrifying our operations, using AI-powered solutions, and working with partners like Einride to reach our net-zero targets. Jebel Ali Port, which is the 10th busiest port in the world, is setting a new standard for the electrification of transport in major trade hubs.”

Robert Falck, CEO and Founder of Einride, also shared his thoughts. He said:

“This is just the beginning of many milestones as we aim to build the largest network of electric and autonomous freight transport in the Middle East. The UAE is in a strong position to lead this shift towards sustainable logistics due to its focus on innovation. We are proud to partner with DP World to drive this transformation.”

Multi-Phase Rollout with More to Come
The launch of the electric fleet is part of a multi-phase rollout. The first wave of vehicles is already operating, and a second wave is expected later this year. The entire fleet is scheduled to be fully operational by 2026, with the capacity to move up to 2 million twenty-foot containers every year.

The rollout includes Einride’s full technology platform, which combines:

Electric vehicles
Charging stations
Einride Saga, an AI-powered operating system that optimizes transport efficiency
The platform uses data-driven insights to reduce costs and improve operations. Over time, it will also create a foundation for autonomous electric transport.

Active Operations at Jebel Ali Port
With the launch, the new electric vehicles are already in use, transporting goods across Jebel Ali Port. Einride’s technology is helping DP World make container handling more sustainable and efficient.

Supporting the UAE’s Green Goals
The UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 goal is driving the country’s push for clean mobility and sustainable development. DP World’s move to introduce electric freight at Jebel Ali Port strengthens its position as a leader in green logistics. It also sets an example for other major trade hubs around the world to follow.
