In a startling turn of events, former President Donald Trump sparked controversy among his followers by sending out an email with the alarming subject line: "They were authorized to shoot me!" The email, purportedly from "President Trump," went on to claim that he narrowly escaped death during FBI raids at his Mar-a-Lago estate, insinuating that President Biden's Department of Justice (DOJ) was prepared to use deadly force.

However, upon closer examination, it became apparent that this email was not a distress signal but rather a fundraising appeal. Many recipients initially interpreted the message as a cry for help, only to realize it was another tactic employed by Trump's team to garner attention and financial support.

This latest claim by Trump comes in the wake of a controversial argument presented by his lawyer before the US Supreme Court, suggesting that presidents should enjoy "absolute immunity" even in extreme scenarios such as ordering a hit on a political opponent.

But what exactly is Trump referring to in his email? The assertion of being "authorized to shoot" is rooted in a recently unsealed FBI document outlining procedures for the search of Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in 2022. While the document did mention the "use of force" protocols, the actual search operation was conducted in a much more subdued manner.

Stephen D'Antuono, former FBI assistant director overseeing the Washington field office, clarified that the FBI worked in tandem with the Secret Service to ensure the search was conducted discreetly, without any dramatic displays or excessive force.

This isn't the first time Trump has employed sensational and misleading tactics in his fundraising emails. Previous messages have falsely suggested that Trump had already chosen a running mate and promoted merchandise or sweepstakes to entice donations.

On social media, Trump further amplified his grievances, intertwining the "deadly force" claim with complaints about his trial courtroom's temperature and questioning President Biden's fitness for office. He accused Biden's DOJ of unlawful actions and floated the idea of invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Biden from power.

In sum, while Trump's emails may shock and grab attention, they often lack substance and accuracy, serving primarily as fundraising tools rather than genuine expressions of concern or political discourse.
