Dubai Advances Tokenised Commodities with DMCC-VARA Deal

Dubai is stepping firmly into the future of finance and trade as DMCC, the emirate’s leading business hub, joins hands with the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) to advance tokenised commodities. The move positions Dubai as a global pioneer in integrating physical assets like gold and diamonds into blockchain-based financial systems.

The collaboration aims to create a secure and transparent framework for tokenised commodities, leveraging DMCC’s deep expertise in the commodities market and VARA’s regulatory oversight. The partnership will pilot projects to assess the feasibility of trading tokenised gold, diamonds, and other high-value assets, examining technical, regulatory, and market considerations to design practical investment-ready models.

Education and investor awareness are key pillars of the initiative. Joint workshops and seminars will inform institutions and the public about the benefits, risks, and regulatory standards surrounding tokenised assets, building trust and understanding in the emerging digital ecosystem.

DMCC, home to nearly 26,000 member companies including over 1,500 in gold and precious metals and more than 700 Web3 firms, has already facilitated gold-backed digital assets via its Tradeflow platform. This partnership is expected to expand market access, enhance liquidity, and encourage innovation in digital asset-backed commodities.

Dubai’s growth as a hub for digital assets is evident, with DMCC’s Crypto Centre recording a 38% year-on-year rise in registered crypto companies. By combining commodity expertise with regulatory guidance, this partnership sets the stage for a more integrated, data-driven approach to tokenised markets, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global destination for trade and digital finance.
